Science Family Fun Day 'Surprising Senses' (All Ages), 11-4pm, The Royal Institute

The event is especially suited to 6/7 year olds, but everyone is welcome.

It’s time for Family Fun Day at the Royal Institute. The team at the Ri will fill it to the brim with a sensational set of demonstrations, experiments and talks. This time, explore the limits of the human senses and get your hands, noses, tongues, eyes and ears ready for an unforgettable experience. . 

Drop in anytime to enjoy the short talks in our famous theatre and get stuck in to experiments, creative activities and making things to take home. Suitable for children aged 6-12, though older and younger siblings and friends are very welcome. Community groups are also welcome.

There are activities on for everyone to do together.

  • Please note though, they don't have any childcare facilities, so you'll need to stay with your children at all times.
  • The day is fully flexible, so you can drop in for 30 minutes, or stay for the whole five hours.
  • Most people say they find there's enough here to fill at least three hours.

What makes a good story? How are headlines written? Which photograph works best on a front page? Learn everything about how a front page is put together and create your own under the watchful eye of Guardian staff. 

During this two hour workshop, work as a family to select, write and edit stories, create headlines, choose pictures and produce your own front page to a tight deadline. 

  • The session is suitable for children ages 7 to 16
  • Children must be accompanied throughout the whole session by an adult (at least one adult per two children)
